Pecos Bill was an exaggerated personification of Western stamina and values; his vivid exploits are analogous to those of the legendary giant lumberjack Paul Bunyan. Pecos Bill was created by journalists, primarily Edward O'Reilly in The Century Magazine; "The Saga of Pecos Bill first appeared in The Century Magazine in October 1923. Pecos Bill is said to have been born in Texas about 1832 and was raised by coyotes after his parents lost him near the Pecos River. As an adult he rode a mountain lion and used a rattlesnake as a lasso. He died after washing down a meal of barbed wire with a drink of nitroglycerin. Stories of Pecos Bill were adopted by cowboys in Australia and Argentina.
Edward "Tex" O'Reilly was an American solider of fortune, writer, journalist, and film actor. He is said to have bought in ten wars under many flags. Wikipenia. O'Reilly published his autobiography, Roving and Fighting, in 1918.
