LIMITED EDITION of 250 copies, presented by Bernard L. Fontana, George Kinney and Tony Kroll. Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo was founded in 1720 and is named for Saint Joseph and the Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo, the governor of the Province of Coahuila and Texas at the time. It was built on the banks of the San Antonio River a few miles south of an earlier mission, Mission San Antonio de Valero, present day the Alamo. It was found was Franciscan missionary Father Antonio Margil de Jesus. Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo is an active parish today.
Bernard Fontana was a renowned authority on the history and anthropology of the Southwest. He worked at the University of Arizona as a lecturer in the anthropology department, an ethnologist at the Arizona State Museum, and a field historian in the library.
