Quarter black cloth, patterned paper over boards, gilt spine title, dust-jacket with cover illustration on the front and price on the front flap; binding square and tight. CGSZ118-003. Fine.

FIRST EDITION, printed by William M. Cheney, engravings by Dan Taylor, binding by Bela Blau. This is the first appearance in print of drawings centered on the world in and around Dawson's Book Shop. These drawings were done by Tom Neal over a forty year career as a bookseller. They bring to life a Los Angeles when parking was 50-cents-an-hour, cops patrolled their beats on foot, newsies hawked the Evening Herald, and the Statler Hotel offered the most upscale lodgings in the neighborhood. Neal worked at Dawson's Book Shop for 30 years as a cataloger and appraiser where he amused customers with drawings in the margins of his quote letters.
