Los Angeles, CA: (Muir Dawson), 1960.
Miniature Book. 3 1/16 x 2 1/4 inches. [iv], (vii) pp. Text elegantly printed in black and red inks; text clean, unmarked. Printed wrappers, stitched; binding square and tight, very light toning along spine and head of front cover. Ink correction on colophon. CGSZ817-001. Very Good.
No Limitation Stated. "Printed by Muir Dawson from 'The Whole Book of Psalmes Faithfully Translated into English Metre.' (Cambridge) 1640." Colophon. I am not sure why Bradbury placed this item under "Dawson's Book Shop." Nowhere in the text is the book store mentioned. Muir did his own printing beginning in the 1940s when he was a student in the typography course at Scripps College. "This version of the loved 23rd Psalm is in meter & was sung by the Puritans in Massachusetts. It is reprinted from the first book to be printed in, as well as first to be written in, what is now the U.S." Bradbury. All of the books printed by Muir Dawson are now scarce.
REFERENCE: Bradbury, 20th Cent. U.S. Miniature Books, No. 399. 4 copies Worldcat. One of the library's cataloging record includes a publisher's note laid in: "This was intended to be a Christmas greeting but did not get finished in time. 1961 is still young so we feel justified in sending this late, but no less warm greeting for the new year. Muir Agnes & Michael Dawson." Another suggestion that this is not really a Dawson's Book Shop imprint.
