Joseph Pratt Allyn (1833-1869) was an American jurist and journalist, and appointed by President Lincoln as an original Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Arizona Territory. These letters are his descriptions of his journey to Arizona and his subsequent exploration of the West, replete with astute and absorbing descriptions of the landscape, people, and energy of the West.
