Sold AS IS. Short biography of John Muir by Muir's close friend, John Swett. Swett is considered to be the "Father of the California Public School System." In 1863 Swett was instrumental in founding the California Educational Society, and was elected California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. His most important contribution was making the California school system free for all students.
