Quarter olive-green cloth, paper over boards illustrated with a Map of the Territory of Montana, cloth titled in gold-colored ink; binding square and tight, text block a bit wavy. Fine. One of the Fifty Books of the Year for 1970. This book lays out the overland journey of Kate Dunlap with editorial material reading from right to left just as one would read a map from east to west. It displays an overland diary right to left with text immediately related to the maps on the same page with the intention of heightening the reader's empathy with the diarist and her story.
