Single sheet of paper, printed on one side. 4 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches. Receipt for $ 2.80 to rent the 3 story brick building at 351-353 N. Main Street in Los Angles, filled out by hand on February 1st, 1895 for the Times Mirror Company by F. S. Hicks, and rubber stamped "Paid," receipt illustrated with logo of the publishing company, and a drawing of the Times Building at the corner of First & Broadway showing horse drawn carriages and an electric railway car. One edge is roughed up where it has been torn out of a receipt pad. Small (3-line) classified ad to let or lease the building on Main Street is tipped onto the front of the receipt. Very Good. Harrison Gray Otis began editorial responsibilities for the Los Angeles Daily Times on August 1, 1882. The Otis family came to dominate the city of Los Angeles with real estate investments in addition to the influential conservative paper, the Los Angeles Times. This receipt documents the real estate properties owned by the Times Mirror Company.
