LIMITED EDITION of 250 copies, this is number 98. 8vo. 9 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches. [iv], (23) pp. Color frontispiece, illustrated title page, head- and tailpieces; text clean, unmarked, offsetting on title page from frontispiece, pages lightly toned. Quarter vellum, olive green paper over boards, front cover lined and titled in green; binding square and tight, toned, shelf wear. Very Good. Hand-set in Cloister Lightface type, presswork by Lawton R. Kennedy, decorations by William Ross Cameron. Thomas Gray was an English poet, classical scholar, and professor at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is his most famous work. The poem was a literary sensation when it was published by Robert Dodsley in February 1751. Its reflective, calm and stoic tone was greatly admired; it is still one of the most popular and frequently quoted poems in the English Language. W. R. Cameron was a well-known commercial artist of San Francisco and was a frequent contributor on art subjects to various trade publications, including The Inland Printer.
