8vo. 212 pp. Advertisements throughout (many illustrated), 3 plates, including a double-page seating chart for an unidentified theater, folding map of Pasadena (4 panels) by Campbell and Marsh, Draftsmen, folding map "Southern California Railway, The Santa Fe in Southern California" (2 panels, from San Diego to Santa Monica, up to Barstow; the four-panel map of Pasadena has tears at the folds in the very center of the map without loss, marginal pencil notes in the gutter of page 93, a few pencil notations on the blank space on page 212, otherwise the text is unmarked. Quarter brown calf, gray cloth ruled and printed in black, spine titled and decorated in gilt; binding square and tight, rear board stained, the entire binding has been restored, newly re-sewn on cord, completely new leather was used on the spine and tooled to match the original design, inner joints repaired with Japanese tissue paper. Ownership rubber stamps of Albert G. Thurston on front cover, front free end-paper, and page 7. SCARCE. Very Good. This is the fifth known Pasadena city directory, the first having been published in 1881. It contains a comprehensive list of residents, the Pasadena Board of Trade and its officers, the city government, and extensive advertisements from local businesses. PROVENANCE: This copy has the ownership rubber stamps of Albert G. Thurston, who published Southern California directories, including for Pasadena, from 1902 to 1951. Not in Rocq. 3 copies Worldcat.
