1883-1911. 8vo. 10 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. 27 articles extracted from Century Magazine, with an additional article from The Scrap Book, each article separated from the others with blank green paper leaves; 1 page from Charles Gillespie's A Miner's Sunday in Coloma has a rip along the inner margin, otherwise only occasional light toning and foxing. Half black leather, black cloth boards, gilt-ruled covers, spine ruled and titled in gilt; binding square and tight, spine chipped, rubbed, joints cracked. Very Good. This volume contains an extensive survey of California history written by those who experienced it. It is a collection of articles about early pioneer days in California extracted from magazines and custom-bound together. All but one of the articles are from Century Magazine; highlights include Helen Hunt Jackson's Report on Mission Indians, John Fremont, John Bidwell, and John Muir, among others.
