Kern was an American artist and explorer who accompanied four major expeditions to the Southwest. His watercolors and sketches document the trips, and were widely reproduced in his day. This book reproduces his art and gives a full account of his professional life. David J. Weber is professor of history at Southern Methodist University; he has published 12 books on the history of the Southwest and is winner of 6 major and professional awards.
