[iv], (65) pp. Title page in colored pictorial border, color illustrations throughout from Punch, folding plate with two illustrations; text clean, unmarked. Quarter beige cloth, marbled paper over boards; binding square and tight, light shelf wear, LACKS spine label. Very Good. "This essay is reprinted from Ticknor, Reed, and Fields' edition of De Quincey's Letters to a Young Man and Other Papers, published at Boston in 1854. It appeared first in Hogg's Weekly Instructor, an English periodical, in 1852. The 1853 postscript was added to a later edition, from which the Ticknor, Reed text was taken. The sketches are taken from Punch, issues of 1849 and 1850, and are intended not only to illustrate the text, but also to liven it." Preliminaries. Thomas de Quincey was an English essayist.
