LIMITED EDITION of 1,000 copies, this is the first of a series of Rosters showing the major players and institutions in the state of California. 8vo. 9 1/4 x 6 inches. 278 pp. Contains the text of both the US and California State Constitutions, 7 plates, 3 folding color maps, 2 folding sample ballots, numerous tables throughout, index; text clean, unmarked, the folding maps and ballots have small tears only one of which affects the printed material, pages lightly toned. Blind- and gilt-stamped pale blue cloth, beveled edges; binding square and tight, rubbed, corners bumped, spotting and soiling to covers. SCARCE. Very Good. Edwin G. Waite was a goldminer, newspaper man, author, and politician. He first entered the California State Assembly in 1855, representing Alameda. Waite was a newspaperman associated with the Nevada Daily Transcript, Nevada City. Waite is one of the contributors to The Discovery of Gold in California (1968), which reprinted his recollections of the 1849-1851 gold diggings. He died in office while serving as Secretary of State.
