LIMITED EDITION of 150 copies, issued with the school bookplate inside the front cover, which is present here. Printed with Estienne Linotype on machine made paper. This is the first of 15 annual yearbooks printed for the Sarah Dix Hamlin School by the Grabhorn Press from 1939 to 1951. 4to. 12 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Unpaginated. [78] pp. 6 drawings by Mallette Dean throughout, illustrated with black-and-white photographs throughout, ads at the rear, printer's device on the last page; text clean, unmarked. White leather spine, red paper over boards with the school's crest in gilt, red paper label on spine titled in black; binding square and tight, spine foxed with freckling. Very Good. The motto of the Hamlin School is "Excellence in Education for Girls." The school was founded by Sarah Dix Hamlin, who was born in Westford, Massachusetts in 1844 (d. 1923). After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1870, Hamlin worked as an educator throughout the United States and in India. Hamlin bought Van Ness Seminary in San Francisco in 1896, and renamed it The Miss Hamlin's School for Girls and Van Ness Seminary.
