FACSIMILE REPRINT of the 1934 first edition. 4to. 10 1/2 x 7 7/8 inches. (xiv), 210 pp. Half-title, title page printed within a typographic border, bibliography, more than 62 plates of various type specimens (2 are tipped-in folded printed broadsides), index; text with occasional light pencil notations (minimal). Green cloth, stamped in red and gilt on the spine, added mylar jacket; binding square and tight. SCARCE. Very Good. Marius Audin was an autodidact printer, typographer, and historian of French printing. Audin began as an assistant clerk at the Commercial Court in Lyon, but became the editor of a legal gazette, and from there established his own printing and publishing house. Beginning in the 1920s, Audin became acquainted with Stanley Morison and produced a number of booklets on the history of typography and an extensive literature on the history of printing in France.
