Shambaugh, Preface by Raymond Kresensky, State Director of the Iowa Works Project Administration, 81 illustrations, 11 maps, including 'Iowa Tour Key' map on front pastedown and a large folding map of Iowa, 1938 printed in 3 colors in pocket at rear, notations on use of book, calendar of events, appendices including chronology, bibliography, and index; text clean, unmarked. Gilt-stamped green cloth, dust-jacket in archival mylar; binding square and tight, spine lightly faded, offsetting in the gutter of the end-papers, jacket price-clipped and with wear and a few small chips at the extremities. Very Good. The WPA Iowa Guide was sponsored by the State Historical Society of Iowa. The book gives a history of the state, remarks on its notable citizens, and discusses the major cities as well as small towns, some of which no longer exist. This volume is also an important tourism guide, with descriptions of routes to take and things to see along the way.
