This edition, prepared after Carter's death, includes annotations and emendations Carter left in his interleaved copy of the fifth edition. The text provides information gleaned from Carter's personal experience as a book-collector. Carter joined Sotheby's in 1955 and was responsible for expanding their United States market. He was also a personal collector, specializing in A.E. Housman and Eton master William Cory.
