FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. 8vo. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches. (ii)-xvi, 455, [1 blank] pp. Half-title, 42 illustrations; text clean, unmarked, front and rear fly-leaves foxed. Contemporary half tan calf ruled in gilt, raised bands, dark red leather spine label titled in gilt, spine decorated in gilt, all edges marbled; binding square and tight, re-backed with brown cloth with original spine laid down, corners showing. Very Good. Herbert's Fish and Fishing in the United States provides detailed descriptions of the species of fish commonly caught in North America, with appendices on fishing tackle and typical methods of preparation for eating. Henry Herbert was born in London and educated at Eton College and Caius College Cambridge. After Herbert lost his property to a dishonest agent, he emigrated to the United States in 1831. He taught Latin and Greek at a private school in New York for eight years. He founded and edited the American Monthly Magazine in 1833, which he edited until 1835.
