FIRST EDITION of Caresse Crosby's autobiography. 8vo. 8 1/4 x 5 5/8 inches. [x], 342 pp. Printer's device on title page, 5 double-sided plates of black-and-white photographs; text clean, unmarked. Two-toned cloth, spine titled in gilt, dust-jacket in archival mylar; binding square and tight, minor dust-soiling, jacket (price intact) with small chips and tears at edges. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR "For Delia, Whose passionate devotion to 'the Passionate Years' has been a delight. Gratefully, Caresse, April 7, 1953." Very Good. Caresse Crosby (born Mary Phelps Jacob) was "an American patron of the arts, publisher, and the 'Literary godmother to the Lost Generation of expatriate writers in Paris.' She and her second husband, Harry Crosby, founded the Black Sun Press, which was instrumental in publishing early works of many authors who would later become famous, including Ernest Hemingway, Archibald MacLeish, Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Kay Boyle, Charles Bukowski, Hart Crane, and Robert Duncan."
