(111) pp. Series half-title, half-title, 7 figures, 89 plates (1 double-page), full descriptive bibliography of the 22 books used to illustrate this volume, bibliography; text clean unmarked. Plain stiff wrappers, printed jacket on green paper folds over the wrappers, added mylar jacket; binding square and tight, head of spine bumped. Ex library rubber stamps of Kansas City Public Library and pencil call number on page 9, label removed from inside front cover. With the original green paper slip case, spine label removed with an added title label on top edge of slip case. Very Good. This is an important study of the hand-writing manuals of sixteenth-century Italy by the former director of the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, published the same year that Casamassima lead the effort to limit the damage the Florence flood inflicted in November to valuable documents preserved in the library.

Plain wrappers, printed brown paper jacket folded over the wraps with wax paper cover, added mylar jacket over all; binding tight, foot of spine bumped, waxed paper shows some small tears, printed wrapper toned. This volume contains Andrea Federico Gasparinetti's translation into Italian of Joseph Jerome Lefrancois de Lalande's (1732-1807), Art de Faire le papier (first edition, 1771). The French Academy of Sciences published a series of works on various arts and crafts in the mid-eighteenth century, among them was Lalande's treatise on paper-making (Descriptions des arts et metiers, Volume 4). Gasparinetti's introduction gives a thorough review of this work's publication history and its significance as the first comprehensive treatise on paper-making. See Number 35 in this list, below.
