6 William Pinnock (1742-1843). W. Pinnock, Music-Seller.
London: W. Pinnock, 1821 First Edition Paperback Collectible: Very Good Paperback
Single bifold. 230 x 187 mm. 9 x 7 3/8 inches. 3 pp. [last blank]. Single- and double-column text, printed in different sizes and fonts, roman and gothic; marginal toning or dust-soiling, fold-lines, blank page [4] soiled. Very Good. William Pinnock is most famous for his production (with Samuel Maunder), of cheap popular pedagogical texts, including the extremely successful abridgments of Goldsmith's Histories of England, Greece, and Rome. Pinnock's music shop was located at 267, St. Clement's Church-Yard, Strand, London. Pinnock attempted to gain a monopoly on veneered wood; when the wood proved unsalable, he began to use it to make pianos, which was the genesis of his music shop and piano factory. This pamphlet announces upcoming items for sale from W. Pinnock, music-seller. These include "The Royal Psalmist," a monthly journal with new versifications of the psalms of David; the "Ladies' Musical Library," - selections of musical works "from the most popular and approved British and Foreign Melodies;" "The Musical Moralist;" and a variety of piano-fortes.
