Blind- and gilt-stamped navy cloth; binding square and tight, lightly rubbed. SIGNED BY Ward Ritchie and Irving Block on the colophon. Very Good.

(39) pp. Samples of work from the Scripps College Press, textual ornaments in red and green; text clean, unmarked. Gilt-titled black cloth spine, marbled Cockerell paper over boards, plain gray paper dust jacket; binding square and tight. Comes with an invoice for the book for Mr. Ernest D. Marshall. Fine. Designed by Ward Ritchie and printed by Richard Hoffman. The Scripps College Press was founded in 1941 for students to learn fine press printing. It was initially taught by Ward Ritchie, and students worked with a type face designed by Frederic Goudy for the Press's exclusive use. The Press was later run and taught by Joseph Foster. A short introduction reads: "On January 7, 1977 the Rounce & Coffin Club organized a surprise party for Grant Dahlstrom to celebrate his 75th birthday. On April 2, 1978 a volume of tributes was published, 'Grant Dahlstrom Master Printer,' in an edition of 300 copies printed by Vance Gerry. Due to the number of persons involved in publishing this volume, a mishap occurred. Ward Ritchie's preferred version of his contribution was not printed. The correct version is here printed, along with a tribute from Margot and H. Richard Archer which was read at the surprise party."

(59) pp. Illustrated title page, black-and-white engravings by Paul Landacre; text clean, unmarked. Gilt-titled black cloth spine, decorative paper over boards, decorative end-papers, plain white paper dust jacket; binding square and tight, some black spots on rear of dust jacket. Very Good. Designed by Ward Ritchie and printed by George Kinney at the Castle Press, printed with Goudy Thirty type on machine made paper. Includes 16 Landacre engravings, many printed directly from the original blocks. A very personal recollection of Paul Landacre by his close friend Ward Ritchie. Paul Landacre (1893-1963) is now recognized as one of the United States' finest wood engravers, although he struggled throughout his career due to disabilities. Included in the Rounce and Coffin Club Exhibition of Western Books, and is the third book supported by the Special Fund at the Book Club of California established by Dorothy and David Magee.
