8vo. 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. 144 pp. Recipes and illustrations throughout (most color), index; text clean, unmarked, but some thumbing in the first few pages. Quarter blue cloth, patterned paper over boards; binding square and tight, some soiling to front cover. Very Good. Dedicated to the Modern American Homemaker. Alice Bradley (1875-1946) began her lifelong culinary career by giving cooking demonstrations with Janet MaKenzie Hill. Bradley attended the Boston Cooking School, where Fannie Merritt Farmer was director; the students at the school tested recipes for Farmer's book, The Boston Cooking School Cook Book, which became famous for its novel use of precise, level measurements of ingreditents. In 1902, Fannie Farmer opened Miss Farmer's School of Cookery where Alice Bradley became a teacher of dietetics; in 1915 when Miss Farmer died, Bradley bought the school and became its principal. In 1916 Bradley became cooking editor for The Woman's Home Companion and her work was sought out by government and private industry.
